9 january 2014 - Portloe, Roseland Peninsular. Seen here descending in to the narrow and very picturesque fishing village of Portloe on the Roseland Peninular area of Cornwall is this Mercedes Vario. This service should be operated by low-floor buses (normally small Optare Solos), but since a large depot fire this year that destroyed 37 vehicles it has been a case of "all hands on deck" to cover the routes.

9 january 2014 - Portloe, Roseland Peninsular. Seen climbing out of the picturesque Cornish fishing village of Portloe is this Mercedes Vario - perfectly suited in size for this very narrow and challenging route which I used to enjoy driving when I lived in this area.

27 february 2014 - Budnic Hill, Perranporth. Thought I`d try something a little different using the sign at the entrance to this holiday complex built on the sand dunes on the north coast of Cornwall. During the summer season buses will enter the resort, but for now they can continue easily.

10 february 2014 - Watergate Road, Watergate Bay, Newquay. In what I expect to be its`s final year of stage-carriage service in the UK is this Plaxton Beaver "Plus": fitted with coach style seats and a small drop-well boot. Potentially one of many to be exported to Poland over the course of the next year.

27 february 2014 - Budnic Hill, Perranporth. Seen passing the entrance of the quiet Perran Sands Holiday Park is this Vario, one of many in the Western Greyhound fleet. With the DDA compliance deadline for this type of bus now only 9 months away, front line service is coming to a close for this type. One Western Greyhound Vario has recently been exported to Poland, apparently with many more to follow. This one too, perhaps?

10 february 2014 - Watergate Road, Watergate Bay, nr. Newquay. I was employed by Western Greyhound when this bus was purchased, second-hand. Although many of this type were owned and operated, this one was different. With wood effect dashboard and in immaculate condition with resplendent silver paint work and red coach-type seats, the decision was taken not to repaint this vehicle and make it a vehicle for private hires. When not engaged on private hire work, it would do a duty that kept it local and on routes where it was not likely to be damaged. It gained it`s own Facebook page as local people started to spot this "different" Western Greyhound bus all over Cornwall. Now time has passed, it will work all routes though was repainted in a darker shade of silver in 2012 and received special vinyls to commemorate the Queens diamond jubilee, which it retains to this day.
