1941 - Budapest. This very strange vehicle is pictured in the Szentendre bus and tram museum and I thought you would like to see it. It’s a petrol-engined coach converted into a tram - amazing! I know nothing about it or where it ran, although perhaps it was a war-time conversion. It now exists only in this photograph (photographer unknown).

Yes, they were wartime conversions. http://villamosok.hu/nza/3100.html has their history in Hungarian as well as photos, including yours. My Hungarian is non-existant, but an online translation gives a rough idea: They were converted from buses from 1941 on because of tyre shortages. Most (or all?) were converted back to buses after the war.

I remember I watched a movie about budapest urban transport and they said the same. Maybe somebody remember title of this movie? I'd like to see it again.
